Teacher Talk Tuesday
How Prioritizing Daily Improvement Can Transform Your Teaching (and Life!)
Good Morning Y’all,
For the next six weeks, I’m diving deep into The 6 Pivot Pillars—six essential shifts that can help teachers not only break free from burnout but actually thrive in their careers. These are the very principles that transformed my life, helping me lose 200 pounds, build multiple side businesses, and develop a mindset that’s made me a better teacher, leader, and person. Each week, we’ll explore one of the pillars in depth:
P – Prioritize Growth (Improve Daily) – Continuous self-improvement keeps us engaged, energized, and moving forward.
I – Identify Your Purpose (Know Yourself) – Understanding who you are and what drives you can unlock new opportunities.
V – Venture Beyond Comfort (Take Risks) – Growth happens when we step outside our comfort zones.
O – Overcome Setbacks (Embrace Failure) – Learning from failure builds resilience and success.
T – Take Care of Your Health (Stay Healthy) – Physical and mental health are foundational to sustainable success.
S – Serve Others (Give Back) – Teaching is a service profession, and giving back fuels fulfillment and career longevity.
Sound like fun? Heck Yes It Does. Let’s dive in!
As alwyas, if you find this info helpful, please share it with your teacher bestie!

Learn Something New Every Day!
The first pillar we’re tackling? P – Prioritize Growth (Improve Daily).
P – Prioritize Growth (Improve Daily)
Teaching is one of the most demanding professions out there. We give, we serve, we pour into our students, often at the expense of ourselves. But the reality is this: if we stop growing, we start dying. Our ability to thrive as educators (and as people) hinges on our commitment to continuous improvement. This idea isn’t just a motivational phrase—it’s a life-changing principle rooted in the Japanese concept of Kaizen—the philosophy of making small, daily improvements that lead to massive transformation over time.
3 Reasons Why Teachers Must Prioritize Growth Daily
Stagnation Leads to Burnout When we stop improving, teaching becomes a repetitive grind. The same lessons. The same frustrations. The same exhaustion. Growth keeps us engaged, inspired, and challenged. When we’re actively learning, we’re less likely to feel stuck in a rut and more likely to find new ways to bring excitement into our classrooms.
Personal Growth = Professional Growth Who we are outside the classroom directly impacts who we are inside the classroom. When we grow as individuals—learning new skills, reading, improving our health, refining our mindset—it translates into our teaching. Students thrive when they’re led by a teacher who is growing, curious, and full of life. The more you grow, the more value you bring to your students and colleagues.
Small Changes Compound Over Time This is the essence of Kaizen—small, daily improvements lead to massive transformation. You don’t need to overhaul your entire life in one day. Simply committing to getting 1% better every day compounds into incredible progress over time. Imagine if, every day, you did one small thing to become a better teacher, a healthier person, or a more effective leader. A year from now, you wouldn’t even recognize yourself.
3 Ways Teachers Can Improve Daily
Start the Day with Learning
Make personal growth a priority by reading 10 minutes of an educational, mindset, or leadership book every morning. Podcasts work too. Journal about the things that inspire and encourage you.
Follow thought leaders in education and personal development. Find teachers who inspire you, read their blogs, and implement what resonates with you.
Use AI tools like ChatGPT to generate new teaching strategies, lesson ideas, or time-saving hacks.
Reflect & Adjust
Keep a Daily Wins & Lessons Journal. Write down one thing you did well and one thing you can improve every day.
Ask yourself: What’s one small adjustment I can make to improve my teaching (and/or my life) tomorrow?
Use student feedback. Ask them what’s working in your class and what could be better. Growth happens when we are open to constructive feedback.
Challenge Yourself to Try Something New Every Week
Choose one new strategy, technology, or classroom management tip to implement each week. Test it out, tweak it, and see if it sticks.
Step outside your comfort zone—apply for that leadership role, start a teacher blog, lead a workshop, or mentor a younger teacher.
Don’t just teach—create. Whether it’s writing, designing, or developing something new for your students, creation fuels growth.
Bottom Line, Y’all…
Your growth is your responsibility. No one is going to force you to get better. No admin, no instructional coach / curriculum director, no professional development session… not even your teacher bestie. It’s on you. The best teachers aren’t just good at what they do—they are always improving.
If you’re feeling burned out, unmotivated, or just stuck, this is your wake-up call: Start growing again. Start with one small habit today. One tweak. One book. One mindset shift.
The change won’t be overnight, but the momentum will build. And before you know it, you’ll be looking back at your life, your health, your career, and thinking, Wow… I never knew I was capable of this.
Next week, we’ll dive into I – Identify Your Purpose (Know Yourself) and how clarity in who you are can unlock doors you never imagined possible. Stay tuned!
